40th Anniversary Royal Visit

Posted: 21st February 2017

In December 2016 we entered our 40th year of helping the people of Newmarket.  To help celebrate,  Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visited our office and presented volunteer awards to acknowledge the contribution they make.

In his speech our Chairman, Marc Walker said:

Just over 40 years ago, a group of concerned local people met in Newmarket library, to discuss how they could help the local community.  And so Citizens Advice Newmarket was born.   Today, the bureau has a team of 7 paid staff and 20 volunteers who see over 2500 clients every year, among them some of the most deprived in our locality.

That wonderful team delivers simply staggering work week after week, year after year.  The figures are astonishing.  The contribution of our team to the community is valued in not tens, but hundreds of thousands of pounds.  The service of our volunteers in particular, allows us to do work that we simply could not afford to do without them.  And it is their inspiring work at a local level that enables the Citizens Advice organisation to be a force for change at a national level. Our appreciation for that work is boundless and it is right that we take opportunities such as this to thank you most sincerely for that work.
